Engadget Podcast 039 - 08.16.2005
It's was a bit of a slow news week, but some
interesting things were indeed going down that you just know we've got to drop our two cents in on, such as TiVo's
finally formally announced download service, our boy Om's predictions on the "GoogleNet" nationwide WiFi network,
what's been going on with getting OS X running on your Intel box, and a little having to do with Microsoft clamping
down on Xbox 360 peripherals. Also, we'd like to extend a thanks to all our people who entered the Iced-out Gadget
Contest—we got some good ones, so keep your eyes peeled—and for those who didn't get their entry in, try your hand at
our Engadget T-Shirt Design Contest! It is summer, afterall, but please, just because we wear them while recording the
show doesn't mean we want designs for wifebeaters.

no itunes yet or is it just me?
Ryan Block @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
AJ,
Our Podcast feed updates every 15 minutes, so there could be up to a 15 minute delay in getting this Podcast if you subscribe to the RSS.
Matt,
This always happens when we release a new Podcast--we can't control the iTunes feed crawling frequency, so if you want it in iTunes you're gonna have to wait until whenever they recrawl our RSS. Sorry about that!
Best,
Ryan

Enjoy the show, but could you change the title so I can see the date and show number in the title on my ipod?
It's hard to tell you have a new show out when I have a list of shows that looks like:
Engadget Podcast...
Engadget Podcast...
Engadget Podcast...
Engadget Podcast...
Engadget Podcast...
We all know it's a podcast, just cut to the Podcast tag.
Something like:
Engadget 039 - 08.16.2005
Or even:
Engadget 039 08.16.2005
Would be lovely.

Great podcast :) Continue your great work!
I only have one nit-pick.
I guess it's not entirely your fault, but I feel like you guys refer to products by model numbers too often in the podcast. To give you an exaggerated fictional example: "This new MD4875 is great, much better than MD4804 or MX4850, but really the MD4875 scrolling feature was really improved. Now onto our review of RTC498, the new version of the RTC4xx series..."
I guess that embedded pictures could be a good way to give more soul to these products, but unfortunately it would require an AAC version of the podcast. But hey aside from that I don't mind it being in MP3 format and I can understand why you dont use AAC.

Is it just me, or is it impossible to get subscription service working with iPodder? Having used what I was given, http://www.engadget.com/common/videos/pt/rss.xml, for the subsciption, the most recent download I've received is from June (6/21). Am I doing something wrong? Thanks--
Ryan Block @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Please see the RSS link above--it changed about four or five months ago to http://podcasts.engadget.com/rss.xml
Best,
Ryan

Thanks for the update--I got the old URL from one of the major podcast directories. Now I can start listening to you on-the-go!
