Engadget Podcast 066 - 01.31.06
We may have lost the QRIO and the AIBO last week, but when one gadget company shuts a door, another opens a window: Nintendo announced the DS Lite, a smaller, um, lighter version of the DS. Microsoft also announced CableCARD 2.0 support for Vista (for a price, anyway), and one of their own, Ford Davidson, took a few to sit down with us and discuss Windows Mobile in the marketplace. And, of course, our usual dose of next-gen optical discussions continues, with a pinch of listener voicemail and a touch of gadgety democracy thrown in for good measure.

Thanks for another great podcast, guys. One thing that would really make me happy would be a separate feed for the enhanced AAC version. That would rule. Keep up the good work.
AceMilo @ Jan 31st 2006 3:48PM
Rss feed still not working right, its still showing 65 as the newest in ipodder lemon (juice receiver).
jalapeno @ Jan 31st 2006 4:15PM
How come these won't come up on the PSPs built in RSS reader anymore? All I get is "There is no item".
dave @ Jan 31st 2006 6:11PM
I would love a standard mp4 version to play on the PSP :)
space on the memory stick is limited and i would think a nice aac in mp4 could work out the same quality at a smaller filesize than the mp3?

The rss feed is missing the enclosure tag for this episode.

Hey engadget guys, I love your podcast. You were mentioning about figuring a method for international callers to call in and leave a voice mail. Well there is one way you could it - by skype.

My PSP doesn't seem to like Engadget, I'm having the same problem as jalapeno. Other podcasts are working fine though. Anyone have a fix?
OlivierB @ Feb 1st 2006 6:34AM
Why don't you guys offer a RSS feed for your enhanced AAC files? As much as I like the enghanced files, I really can't be bothered to click to download this everytime, I need something that I can stick in iTunes and that will refresh "automagically".
Come one, how hard can this be?

I think you should ask Microsoft the following:
The legal jumbo accompanying an MS mobile has it that MS does not provide ANY support for Windows Mobile.
The device pusher (HTC i-mate etc.) adds that they only warrant the hardware (no way this will be held up in court)
So they are trying to equal the mobile device with th desktop where you could load Linux or any other software. For the mobile device there is NO WAY you could ever load anything else than Windows Mobile on it, and further it is in the firmware and protected so that a consumer is prevented from loading his open source toys on there.
The core of the problem is:
1. MS keeps putting out quality deficient software.
2. The availability of WM updates is sparse at best.
Result is consumers are left with devices providing about 2/3 of the functions promised in the user's manual. The HTC hardware is ok while the MS software is not. So, how much support do we get for $500?

I agree with the comments in #8 - and enhanced AAC feed that can be subscribed to via iTunes would be perfect. Manually downloading it just doesn't work when iTunes makes life so easy. Can you please add the AAC feed to iTunes?
Thanks!

Yes, I just came looking for the very same feed as requested by #8 and #10.
You have the technology, you can do it ;-)
Is the problem that you don't want to maintain two rss feeds?
Speaking of rss feeds, why are you posting the whole article in the feed, in place of just the part until the "read more"? Doing it the latter way will
- decrease your bandwidth usage
- improve your ad revenue, since interested people will see more ads
- make page loading on my rss reader faster ;-)
Thanks guys, you are one of the best things on the web, and don't you forget it!
Wout.
