Yes, that's the one and only MJ to open the podcast -- this one was recorded just shortly after the Engadget crew had learned the news. Join Josh, Paul, Nilay and special guest Chris Ziegler as they deny the Nokia N97, get angry at the HTC Hero, bargain with Windows 7, depress themselves over the fate of the netbook, and finally learn to accept the Zune HD's Tegra processor. We won't lie -- Engadget Podcast 152 was a struggle, but in the end we all learned a little something about life, love, and forgiveness.

Update: Any further tasteless MJ jokes will be met with a swift ban.
It's been one hell of a month, hasn't it? New Palm phones, new iPhones, a big Kindle, that Natal thing... LL Cool J. Yes, a lot has happened in the past few weeks, and it's tough to contain all of that activity inside one teensy podcast -- but we've tried. Join Josh, Paul, and Nilay for another adventurous adventure through time, space, and love as they explore the deeper meanings of the cosmos, the universe, and consumer facing gadgetry. If you don't love the way you feel after listening to this thing, you may already be a zombie.

Update: We had some issues with the MP3 of the podcast -- should be working now. It's the big one-five-zero, people, and you know what that means: absolutely nothing. We've got news to talk about, after all -- we'll leave the extensive accolades and embarrassing praise for the history books. If you hadn't guessed, this week's show is a bit heavy on the Apple sauce, so the squeamish should turn away before it's too late. Those inclined, however, to dive into MacBook SKUs and wax philosophical about the iPhone as a platform will likely get their money's worth. It'll be fun, we promise.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Fat Boys - Stick 'Em

00:01:20 - Archos rolls out Archos 10s, Archos 13 laptops, Classmate-based student PC
00:02:40 - Phil Schiller keynote live from WWDC 2009
00:05:06 - Apple's 8GB iPhone 3G falls to $99 on contract
00:05:20 - Apple shows iPhone OS 3.0 at WWDC, hits devices June 17th
00:05:30 - Find My iPhone is live, totally found our iPhone
00:06:00 - iPhone 3G S processor specs: 600MHz CPU, 256MB of RAM
00:22:40 - iPhone 3G S announced: $199 16GB, $299 32GB, June 19th
00:42:40 - Apple's new MacBook family: non-removable batteries, lower prices
00:50:00 - Apple's new MacBook Pro family unboxing and hands-on!
01:01:47 - Apple shipping Snow Leopard in September, $29 upgrade
01:06:38 - Jon Rubinstein takes over as Palm CEO
01:08:32 - Roger McNamee says Pre launch was a "dream come true," hints that all Palm devices will have physical keyboards
01:16:22 - Palm Pre goes on sale nationwide, line forms on the right

Subscribe to the podcast

[iTunes] Subscribe to the Podcast directly in iTunes (enhanced AAC).
[RSS MP3] Add the Engadget Podcast feed (in MP3) to your RSS aggregator and have the show delivered automatically.
[RSS AAC] Add the Engadget Podcast feed (in enhanced AAC) to your RSS aggregator.
[Zune] Subscribe to the Podcast directly in the Zune Marketplace

Download the podcast

LISTEN (MP3)
LISTEN (AAC)
LISTEN (OGG)

Contact the podcast

1-888-ENGADGET or podcast (at) engadget (dot) com.

Twitter: @joshuatopolsky @futurepaul @reckless @engadget<h6 style="clear: both; As you may soon become aware, this week's podcast is about two hours long. Now, we're aware that this might present a difficult scenario for those of you who like to rent out a sensory deprivation room every week to maximize the experience of listening to Josh, Nilay and Paul babble, so here are some usage ideas for this "wild card" hour of listening to be spent in the real world:

Listen to the first half of the podcast twice

Stand in line for the Pre for an hour and then leave

Teach yourself to juggle Wiimotes

Make a recording of yourself lightly chuckling off and on for an hour

Those are just a few of the things we though of off the top of our heads, we're sure you can improve upon these ideas when the moment of truth comes.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Hotel California

00:03:15 - Palm Pre review
00:49:12 - Engadget & Joystiq live from Microsoft's E3 2009 keynote
00:50:34 - Microsoft announces "Project Natal" motion controller for Xbox 360!
00:51:40 - Project Natal video hands-on, impressions, and further details
00:52:30 - Xbox Live gets 1080p Zune video store, Netflix browsing, Twitter and Facebook integration
01:03:03 - Xbox 360 getting full retail games delivered on demand
01:15:20 - Engadget & Joystiq live from Nintendo's E3 2009 keynote
01:15:35 - Nintendo Wii Vitality Sensor detects your pulse
01:22:40 - Miyamoto: Super Mario Bros. We know it's been a long, difficult wait, filled with unspeakable hardships and maybe a bit of Saturday brunch, but the Engadget Podcast is here at last to take away the pain and churn through the insanity of this week's news like a hot knife through imitation butter. It's just Paul and Josh this week, and things should get even crazier next week as E3 descends upon us all, but we promise to get the gang back together real soon to deliver the sort of off-topic rants and delicious non-sequitors you've come to expect from these three beautiful men.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Sweet Dreams

02:07 - Zune HD
17:00 - AT&T expects to sell Palm Pre when Sprint's exclusivity ends
18:50 - Verizon Wireless to carry Palm Pre, Storm 2 "in about six months"
32:51 - iTunes support confirmed for Palm Pre
42:07 - Palm Pre User Guide: the highlights, so far
43:00 - Android 2.0 "Donut" features demoed at Google I/O
44:52 - Google Ion hands-on and unboxing
45:05 - Android 1.5 update for T-Mobile G1 now rolling out, for real this time
48:36 - Sony Ericsson's Satio and Aino get handled, Remote Play makes the Aino PSP-like -- minus the games
52:35 - "Mole" says UMD-less PSP-Go!

Josh Topolsky and Paul Miller walk into a bar, but the bar is a recording studio.

The bartender, who is the recording engineer, asks, "Why the long faces?"

"Sigh," Paul says, and looks down at his feet. "Nothing but a buncha crummy phone rumors and probably fake slim PS3 pictures this week."

"It's hard to podcast when there's no exciting news to podcast about," says Josh, staring off into the distance.

The door slams open: it's Nilay Patel. "I know what'll cheer you guys up!" he says as he slams three stiff drinks down on the table. "Trashing AT&T about the Slingplayer app!"

Smiles creep over Josh and Paul's faces. They nod, the engineer hits the record button, and history is made: The Engadget Podcast, volume 146.

Update: We added a video feed of your charming hosts from the recording studio after the break. Sure, you love the Engadget Podcast... but how much do you love it? Allow the power of your undying devotion to the sounds of Engadget chatter be tested this week as Josh, Paul, and Nilay take a journey through space and time. This week, you'll hear the guys dissect Amazon's Kindle DX launch, wax excited about Android v1.5 (that's Cupcake for us pros), talk openly about Google's netbook designs, and generally rap about a whole bunch of really cool junk. Don't miss it. Seriously.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Take On Me

00:01:04 - Amazon Kindle DX announced: $489, ships this summer
00:37:44 - Android 1.5 coming to T-Mobile UK now, USA next week
00:52:00 - Is Dell cooking up an Android-powered netbook?
01:00:20 - HTC working on an Android netbook for T-Mobile?
01:02:50 - Xbox 360 to get motion-sensing add-on with full body game control?
01:13:37 - DJ Hero announced at last, along with Band Hero for the family and Guitar Hero 5 for the face melters

Twitter: @joshuatopolsky @futurepaul @reckless @engadget

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Trent Wolbe

<itunes:subtitle>Engadget Podcast 145</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author>Josh Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller</itunes:author><itunes:duration>01:16:24</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>podcasts</itunes:keywords>

Engadget Podcast 144 - 05.01.2009

Bogged down and confused with the latest spate of wild mobile speculations? Relationship troubles clouding your judgment? Lonely? Well Josh, Nilay and Paul -- your jovial (yet often enraged) Engadget Podcast crew -- are back for another installment to help you sort all that out. In a week heavy on rumors (Palm Eos, Microsoft "Pink" and the not-so-nano "iPhone lite") and laden with opinion (Windows 7 RC1, TiVo's sad state of affairs), join the boys as they delve deep into the abyss that is gadgetry. Sure, there might never be a Zunephone, but remember: the beauty is in the journey... or something.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: All That She Wants

00:01:13 - Palm Eos: super-thin, 3G, and headed to AT&T?
00:27:20 - Microsoft's "Pink" smartphone could rival iPhone on Verizon
00:29:00 - Microsoft reiterates what we knew: no first-party handset, no Zunephone
00:36:40 - Apple prototyping "iPhone lite" and MacBook Mini / media pad for Verizon?
00:46:30 - Samsung I7500 with OLED touchscreen powered by Android, dreams
00:57:42 - Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 impressions, insights, and expectations
01:10:05 - Ten years of TiVo: how far we haven't come

Twitter: @joshuatopolsky @futurepaul @reckless @engadget<h6 style="clear: both;
In case you aren't hip to the Twittersphere, Josh, Nilay, Paul and Engadget's own Twitter bot put out their feelers for listener questions this week, and got a lot of great material for discussion. Inquisitive minds wanted to know which wild conjectures these fine men believe about the Zune HD, how particularly evil Time Warner Cable is, and other matters related to Chinese phone manufacturers and The End Times. If you failed to seize upon this opportunity to ask, or found your own question heartlessly ignored, make sure to take advantage of the various avenues of contact listed below and ask away!

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Ghostbusters

00:02:36 - Is this the Zune HD?
00:23:08 - Time Warner Cable lays out broadband capping plans, says $150 for "unlimited" use
00:28:25 - Time Warner Cable to axe DOCSIS 3.0 trials without tiered billing?
00:33:53 - Time Warner and Embarq can't compete with city-owned ISP, trying to outlaw it
00:47:37 - Ugobe files for bankruptcy, Pleo facing extinction
00:53:28 - Keepin' it real fake
01:09:03 - T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 video hands-on

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Trent Wolbe

<itunes:subtitle>Engadget Podcast 143</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author>Josh Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller</itunes:author><itunes:duration>01:18:18</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>podcasts</itunes:keywords>

Engadget Podcast 142 - 04.18.2009: 5th birthday edition

We don't really get too reflective here at Engadget -- usually we're too busy getting news up to think much about ourselves. Still, when you hit your 5th birthday, you tend to want to look back and review how far you've come. We thought there'd be no better way to celebrate the milestone than by having the site's founder Peter Rojas, and instrumental architect Ryan Block on the show to discuss the early days of Engadget. So without further ado -- sit back and enjoy our 5th birthday podcast!
We just wanted to give you guys a heads-up and let you know that while you won't see a new Engadget Podcast today -- don't worry -- it's not going anywhere! We had to shuffle our schedules a little bit to have on some very special guests, namely, Peter Rojas and Ryan Block. We decided it would be fun to celebrate Engadget's 5th birthday with a chat about how the site got its start. That's right everyone -- it's the Engadget Podcast. If you're down with gadgets, chatting, and just kicking it ill, you're in the right place. Hear your friends Josh, Paul, and Nilay discuss the week in technology, and expound on their belief that the P.U.M.A. is a dangerous rickshaw, Acer has stepped up to the netbook plate in a big way, and Microsoft might not be totally on the level with its new ads. Ready to get the blood boiling? Dip your toes into the jacuzzi of chat that is the podcast, and enjoy!

Note: There appears to be some very weird timing issues going on with our audio in this installment. If it seems like we're talking over each other more than normal, don't be too alarmed. We're looking into it now.
Do you love people talking? Do you love technology? Then you're in the right place, friend. Welcome -- yes, welcome one and all to the Engadget Podcast! This week, you get to hear the coolest set of cats this side of the junkyard pontificating on the week's top stories. Listen as Josh, Paul, and Nilay dish about Palm's SDK happenings, marvel at the HTC Snap, relive a Dell unboxing, and get crazy on Sling for some questionable business practices.
Here it comes, another action-packed hour of heartfelt learning and sharing, with your close personal friends Joshua, Nilay and Paul. It's a real variety pack this week, with the market-shifting OnLive and Digital Rebel T1i stealing the show, but plenty of supporting characters (and obligatory Netflix love) keeping things grounded. Frankly, it's a chewy nougat of podcast goodness that's not to be missed for any reason, barring personal emergency or having something else to do today.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Barracuda

00:03:15 - OnLive killed the game console star?
00:17:50 - Nintendo launches Wii System Menu 4.0, including SD card WiiWare playback
00:25:35 - 'Resident Evil 5' Xbox 360 unboxing
00:27:25 - Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i now official (and that article Nilay was talking about)
00:43:55 - Kodak EasyShare Z980 unboxing and impressions
00:48:30 - Kodak Zx1 unboxing and impressions
00:56:35 - Blockbuster OnDemand coming to TiVo
01:02:16 - Is Netflix PS3-bound, too?

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Trent Wolbe

<itunes:subtitle>Engadget Podcast 139</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author>Josh Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller</itunes:author><itunes:duration>01:11:28</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>podcasts</itunes:keywords>

Engadget Podcast 138 - 03.20.2009

Take heart, friend, your favorite three podcast hosts are back this week to talk Adamo and iPhone OS 3.0 -- not necessarily in that order, but probably exactly in that order. Listen with unguarded anticipation as Joshua Topolsky reveals his dream PC laptop, Paul Miller mourns his MacBook Air and Nilay Patel cradles his wide assortment of pet peeves, then flip the LP for a rigorous dissection of Apple's latest. It's gadget love (and hate) in its purest, most unadulterated form, and it all can be yours for the price of a single click.

P.S.- Josh was having some audio problems with his setup, apologies for the glitches -- it gets better at the end.
After last week's international extravaganza from MWC, everybody's back in the land of freedom and opportunity for this week's Engadget Podcast. Josh, Nilay and Paul chat up the Kindle 2 in matters both philosophical and legal, Josh brags about his new non-glossy MacBook Pro 17-incher, and things get really heated when the red Xbox 360 comes up for debate. Don't worry, very few zombies were harmed in the formation of these disparate opinions.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Personal Jesus

00:05:33 - Amazon Kindle 2 review
00:17:50 - The Engadget Interview: Paul Aiken, Executive Director of the Authors Guild
00:33:24 - MacBook Pro 17-inch unibody unboxing and hands-on
00:42:07 - New Mac mini revealed in video?
00:50:09 - MacBook Air hinge defect not covered by Apple's warranty?
00:58:17 - Red 'Resident Evil 5' Xbox 360 unveiled! Hope you brought your cocoa, because this week's Engadget Podcast is an international doozy -- Paul Miller and Chris Ziegler are live on the scene at MWC in Barcelona. Join Josh, Paul, Nilay, and Chris as they run down all the huge announcements from the show, including Windows Mobile 6.5, the HTC Magic, and the amazing OmniaHD. All that plus a show-closing breakdown of Boxee vs Hulu? Yeah, it's gonna be wild.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller
Special guest host: Chris Ziegler
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Don't Stop Believin'

00:01:19 - Editorial: Ten reasons why Windows Mobile 6.5 misses the mark
00:18:37 - First hands-on with the HTC Touch Diamond2 (with video!)
00:19:40 - First hands-on with the HTC Touch Pro2 (with video!)
00:28:30 - Toshiba TG01 hands-on and video walkthrough
00:39:08 - Texas Instruments and Wind River do up Android right
00:45:53 - HTC Magic in-depth hands-on, with video!
00:53:05 - General Mobile's DSTL1 Android phone eyes-on
00:55:15 - Samsung OmniaHD hands-on, now with more TouchWiz
01:06:45 - Sony Ericsson Idou hands-on and video walkthrough
01:17:03 - Nokia N86 hands-on with video!
01:19:04 - Nokia E55 hands-on
01:23:15 - Sonar hopes to power social featurephones, we get a demo
01:36:48 - Hulu asks Boxee to pull content, it complies

1-888-ENGADGET or podcast (at) engadget (dot) com.<h6 style="clear: both;
You know it people. It's the Engadget Podcast, back on the most terrifying Friday in February (or any month for that matter) -- the 13th. That's right folks, the Engadget Podcast is back for more. Once again, you're treated to the smooth tones of pure gadget goodness, though this week, our compatriot Paul Miller has been felled with a totally minor illness. Taking the controls in Paul's battle pod this round is Engadget Mobile editor Chris Ziegler. Hear Josh, Nilay, and Chris pontificate on the finer points of the week's big stories, including (but not limited to): RIM's new BlackBerry Curve 8900, Obama's old BlackBerry, Windows Mobile 6.5, a possible new Kindle, and Josh's inner-most feelings about childcare.
Yes! Engadget is back from CES and ready for action. We thought this week might be a little quiet, but it's been quite the opposite. Listen in to Josh, Paul, and Nilay discussing the hot button items of our time: Steve Jobs, Windows 7, and Crapgadgets.

Things are definitely slowing down at the Las Vegas Convention Center. People are going to the airport. Booth babes are having to work a little bit harder to get our attention. Sleep deprivation is now a way of life. But we're still podcasting: Dell's Adamo makes its way into our lives, Freescale shows off new processors, and Ryan Block chimes in with his views on the show in general and on the Pre in specific - it's another unmissable episode, mercifully recorded while the sun is still out.

Note: You can tell we're tired...

Behold! The glory of Engadget's CES Coverage, Day two: Watch phones, Android tablets, Vaio P's, and press conferences by the fistful. Josh, Paul, and Nilay (who finally got his grubby mitts on a microphone) gather 'round the campfire to ponder the intricacies of the last day before the show floor opens up and the first "really real" day of CES begins.

It's Wednesday in Las Vegas: a little chilly, a lot CES-y. Join your fearlessly caffeinated Engadget Podcast team as it pauses to reflect on the tranquility (and hardware) that came with the final Macworld keynote from Apple, and the technological wizardry that may, may not, or might have already come from the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show. Stay tuned -- we'll be rolling out a new podcast for each magical day of the show!

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Paul Miller, Nilay Patel
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Another One Bites the Dust

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Trent Wolbe

<itunes:subtitle>Engadget Podcast 124</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author>Josh Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller</itunes:author><itunes:duration>0:59:50</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>podcasts</itunes:keywords>

Engadget Podcast 123 - 12.27.2008: Goodbye 2008 edition

Yes, it's that time of year again. The end of the year. This is the final podcast of 2008, but just the tip of the iceberg in the world of Engadget podcasting. Cuddle up by the fireplace and listen in as Josh, Nilay, and Paul reminisce about their time at the reader meetup, pontificate on Apple's exit from Macworld, speculate about the Adamo and VAIO P, and much, much more. Go on and listen -- you know you want to.

Hosts: Joshua Topolsky, Paul Miller, Nilay Patel
Producer: Trent Wolbe
Song: Jump

01:22 - Apple announces final MacWorld, Steve Jobs won't deliver keynote
13:15 - Thank you NYC!
20:26 - Dell confirms shocking truth: Adamo to rival MacBook Air
27:34 - Sony P-series "netbook" unveiled, underwhelming
37:51 - HP Firebird 803 tower with VoodooDNA leaked!
51:32 - Editorial: All I wanted this year was the best smartphone ever

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Trent Wolbe

<itunes:subtitle>Engadget Podcast 123</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author>Josh Topolsky, Nilay Patel, Paul Miller</itunes:author><itunes:duration>01:12:52</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>podcasts</itunes:keywords>

Engadget Podcast 122 - 12.20.2008: NYC reader meetup Q&A

With all the planning and rushing around, we thought we wouldn't get a chance to get a podcast out this week. Ah yes -- another refreshing installment of the Engadget Podcast! This week the boys get in touch with their deep feelings on Palm's potential New-ness, Nokia's mystery touchscreen phone, fresh additions to the Open Handset Alliance, and news on the forthcoming reader meetup. You also get to hear Josh, Paul, and Nilay mix it up about their hopes for the future, next jewelry purchases, and Gmail contact syncing nightmares. We're back, and better than ever! After a quasi-relaxing Thanksgiving break, the Engadget Podcast is on the scene and strutting like 1970's disco dancers. Enjoy the soothing sounds of Josh, Paul, and Nilay this week as they discuss Nokia's newest smartphone entries, the Peek email device, Blockbuster's foray into streaming movies, and lots and lots of personal stuff that no one has ever heard before.

Side note: Josh is suffering through mic problems and had to resort to his internal mic -- if you have any good suggestions for a USB mic or headset, let us know in comments! Yes -- it's happening again. Another installment of the beloved Engadget Podcast has made its way to the virtual airwaves of the ever-loving internet, and now you can listen in for personal enjoyment and edification. Today Josh, Paul, and Nilay get to the heart of our recent "preferred OS" poll, Apple's treatment of iPhone developers, Amazon's abandonment of painful packaging, and more. Included in this podcast is a first-ever (for Engadget at least) on-air unboxing. That's right, hear the sounds of a Gears of War 2 Zune getting ripped open.

As a treat to our faithful listeners, we'll be giving away that very special edition 120GB Zune! Follow the instructions after the break to learn how to make it yours.

Update: We've also included that Best Buy rap discussed in the podcast.
We hope you're prepared to be menaced by the unstoppable, demon-like tech punditry and heart attack-inducing fear that only the Engadget Podcast can provide. This week, the team takes you on a hellish ride through the rancid underworld of the New Xbox Experience with Joystiq's evil kingpin Chris Grant. You can also hear Josh, Paul, and Nilay psychotically sound off on new Netflix happenings, explore the twisted nature of HP's Mini 1000, tear into the meaty gristle of Windows 7, and more. Enter at extreme risk of bodily harm to your personage!
